Internet addicts rejoice: Three UK will offer free Underground Wifi

Three customers will be surfing underground by the end of July

Jealous of commuters having free Wi-Fi on the underground? Well if you’re a Three customer then fear not, for London Underground Wi-Fi will soon be in your grasp too.

Platforms, ticket halls and walkways of 137 stations will be covered, although Wi-Fi on travelling trains still remains a distant dream. Still, it’ll come in handy if you’re regularly stuck on platforms due to delays and/or over-crowding – a regular occurrence which we can sadly vouch for ourselves.

Currently, only customers on EE, Vodafone and O2 are able to use the free Wi-Fi at Underground stations, but that’s set to change.

Speaking to TechRadar, the network’s Director of Customer strategy Danny Dixon confirmed that its service will go live by the end of July – handy if you need to contact home to get a cold beer ready to crack open after you’ve been stuck in a hot, sticky station.

Virgin Media installed the Wi-Fi network ahead of the London 2012 Olympics, who are sure to be benefit from Three’s decision to opt in. Smart move, Sir Richard.
