Kodak Playtouch HD video camera announced

Following in the footsteps of the Zi8 and PlaySport, Kodak has spilled the beans on its latest palmable shooter

Were you looking for a new pocket camcorder? Something solid and ready for action? Were you reaching for Kodak’s Zi8 (or the rugged PlaySport)? Then stop.

If you can wait a month or so, it might be worth holding out for Kodak’s new Playtouch, which does 1080p vids, 5MP stills and promises to do both with more clarity than previous incarnations.

The name’s a bit of a giveaway as well – the new ‘corder has a 3in, glare-proof capacative touchscreen for viewing, editing and tweaking shooting settings. There are some video presets for those who can’t be bothered to work out how to get that ’70s film effect and a swing-out USB arm exports your freshly minted vids while charging the device (there’s also HDMI if you want to cut out the middle machine).

So far, we’ve only got word on a release for our friends across the pond, but a European launch can’t be far behind. For reference, Playtouch will launch in the States for US$230 on September 6.
