LG prepping iPhone competitor for late 2009

It seems LG is planning to be pretty busy between now and 2012 as it eyes the number 2 spot to become second biggest mobile manufacturer in the world.

Unwired View is reporting that Ahn Seung-kwon, president for LG’s mobile phone business, has spoken out about the company’s plan for the next three years – and it looks promising.

Perhaps most interesting in the line up is the launch of an iPhone competitor towards the end of the year, under its new “Black Label” series.

There were few other details to cling on to but we’ll certainly be interested to get our hands on it when it arrives to see how it fares against Apple’s handset.

LG also plans to explore the luxury handset market a little further and create a premium brand it says will be similar to Nokia’s Vertu.

Finally it seems LG is pretty happy with its Prada partnership, as Seung-kwon has said the company is also planning a third handset with the luxury designer.

We’ll keep you updated on any developments with this, so be sure to keep it locked on Stuff.tv. Until then, check out our LG Crystal hands-on video.
