It’s not just the JVC NX-BD3 that’s been getting friendly with DivX at IFA this year. Everyone’s favourite new codec has also popped up on LG’s new DVD spinner.
Yes, you heard us – DVD. The LG DVS450H may eschew the nex-gen disc format, but it will upscale your existing discs to 1080p and, here’s the best bit, it’ll handle hi-def digital files fed to it from a USB stick or DVD.
Thanks to ultra-smart compression methods, format boffins claim that a full-length HD DivX movie will fit onto one disc, meaning the LG can spit out eye-searing visuals on one low-capacity disc. The clever little chap also supports MP3, WMA and JPEG files, natch.
And its looks matches its smarts too – either wall-mounted or table-flat, the player gives the illusion of floating in space and looks slicker than Dean Martin in a buttered bobsleigh.
