We’re hearing rumours that the Mac Mini, beloved of budget Mac fans, could be about to disappear altogether.

The Apple grapevine is tingling with news that the screen-free wonder might be pulled when the next line-up of iMacs appears.

But the cull doesn’t end there. The smallest iMac is also staring into the hardware abyss, with plans to drop the 17in model.

The good news is that, in its place, we’re expecting a pair of Core 2 Duo-based models that’ll be slimmer and sleeker than the current crop.

We’re all for slimmer, faster, bigger-screened iMacs, but the end of the Mac Mini? Say it ain’t so, Apple, say it ain’t so.
