Modular Moto Z looks set for a June 9 launch

Might not be a Razr return after all

We hope you’re ready for more modular smartphones: Lenovo looks set to reveal one in a few weeks under the Moto name.

The June 9 event is almost definitely going to see Lenovo reveal a phone that uses Google’s Project Tango spacial awareness tech, but that might not be the only announcement.

According to invites uncovered by HelloMotoHK, it looks like the modular Moto could make an appearance as well.

As for a name? A US patent filing spotted by DroidLife hints at Moto Z – which might mean we’re looking at a top-end handset that’ll replace the Moto X as the king of Moto’s line-up.

This isn’t the first time a modular Moto has surfaced online ahead of launch. Ex-@EVleaks Evan Blass showed off leaked photos of the Moto Z Style and Moto Z Play earlier this year.

Both apparently have attachable MotoMod backplates that add extra features. Think stereo speakers, a camera grip with better controls, or even a pico projector. With the right selection of extras, Moto could leapfrog the LG G5 and its limited set of add-ons.

As for the phone itself, expect a 5.5in QHD display, 16MP rear camera and a Snapdragon 820 CPU running the show.

With just a few weeks to go until the reveal, we don’t have long to wait to see what Lenovo has in store.
