Motorola Atrix 2 incoming
The Motorola Atrix is back and it's been given a boost in the spec department
When the Motorola Atrix arrived showing off its ability to transform into a laptop/media centre using a dedicated dock, it was truly mind-blowing stuff. Now, it looks like it’s round two for the Motorola Atrix, which has been unimaginatively named the Atrix 2.
The follow up to last year’s dual-core Motorola smartie is still pretty powerful, only this time round it’s bigger and better – and we’re not just talking about its 4.3in qHD screen.
The Atrix 2’s camera has been ramped up to 8MPs – complemented by an LED flash – and it shoots full-fat 1080p HD video, which can be watched on the big screen via HDMI. So it’s already clear the successor to Motorola’s 2010 handset is very much a different beast.
Its other purported specs include Android 2.3.5 (not Ice Cream Sandwich?), a 1.2GHz or 1.5GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, a hyper speed HSPA+ 21Mbps modem (as was rumoured to be landing on the iPhone 5) and 8GB of memory, expandable to 32GB via microSD.
It is thought the Atrix 2 won’t be compatible with the dock tailored for its predecessor. Instead, Moto wants you to fork out more cash for completely new versions, nicknamed the Lapdock 100 and HD Station.
Release date details are thin on the ground, but word on the web is 18 October is its likely due date, where the Atrix 2 is rumoured to make its debut alongside four additional Android-toting devices.
