Netflix on Wii U will use Gamepad for Remote Viewing
Gamepad will double up as a second screen, so you can watch the TV while junior watches cartoons
Netflix is coming to the Wii U – of course it is, it’s on every device under the sun – but it’s going to be a bit different on Nintendo’s multi-screen marvel.
The above image shows how Netflix is planning to adapt its interface to take advantage of the Wii U’s Gamepad controller.
You’ll be able to browse your movies and control playback of whatever you’re watching using the Wii U Gamepad’s touchscreen – but more interesting is the planned Remote View feature.
Wii U Netflix users will also be able to view TV programmes and movies on the Gamepad’s small screen, while the TV displays either static metadata for the programme, or use the TV for watching live broadcasts, Blu-rays or PVR recordings (or, indeed, gaming – though presumably not on the same Wii U that’s running Netflix).
It’s all in the concept stage at the moment, so Netflix might change its plans before the Wii U’s release – but it looks like Netflix is determined to take advantage of the Wii U’s unique qualities.
