New Asus ZenWatch 2 is smarter, sleeker and comes in a smaller size
Two sizes, three strap types and a multitude of colours make quite the buffet of options
The Asus ZenWatch 2 is official and, though we’ve not tested its four-day battery life claim, on paper the watch is a good step up from its predecessor. There’s now an option for a smaller watch face, a choice between rubber, leather and metal for straps and several different colours to choose from.
The Asus watch faces come in 49mm and 45mm sizes, decidedly larger than Apple’s 42mm and 38mm options for the Apple Watch. Its Gorilla Glass 3 glass cover should keep it fairly scratchproof for even the clumsiest of watch wearers.
One new addition to the design is a button on the side – it looks much like an ordinary watch’s dial and is probably a response to Apple’s own ‘digital crown’. Asus merely refers to it as a metal watch crown, and a “new way to interact with the watch”, without going into specifics.
Speedy magnetic charging
There’s also a new companion app called Wellness; Asus is of course adding activity and fitness tracking to the ZenWatch 2. The IP67 grade water-resistance will also ensure your watch survives the odd rain burst, or you forgetting to take it off in the shower.
Asus has also added a new magnetic charger that it claims boosts charging speed and while the company hasn’t expressly stated its battery rating, word is that it will last about three to four days. At the time of writing, pricing and availability has yet to be confirmed for the device.
