Next Moto G will probably have Moto Maker customisation
Leak shows all sorts of colour schemes for the expected budget refresh
Motorola’s flagship Moto X lets users customise the look and backing materials of their new phone with Moto Maker, and the Moto 360 smartwatch offers similar functionality. But what about the company’s budget devices?
It looks like the third-gen Moto G is likely to join the party, if a new leak is any indication. The very reliable Evan Blass (@evleaks) posted an image showing 16 handsets that match earlier leaks for the expected device, with all of the back-facing ones depicting varying colour combinations.
His caption? “Moto-G-Maker.” We see varying colours for the backing plate, metal around the back camera and Motorola logo, and also the border around the phone. Granted, the higher-end Moto X backing materials – like wood and leather – are nowhere to be found, which may indicate that the cheaper Moto G will keep things simpler. Still, it seems like there are plenty of options.
Rumoured specs (which we heard late last month, alongside leaked photos) claim the new device will keep the 5in 720p display of the last version, as well as the 1GB RAM and 8GB internal storage. However, the phone is likely to get an upgrade with a 13MP back camera and a 64-bit Snapdragon 410 system-on-a-chip bumping up the processing power.
There’s no word yet on when we might see the new Moto G, but the second-gen model was released in early September last year alongside the Moto 360 and second-gen Moto X. Don’t be surprised if we see it before autumn rolls around.
