O2 has just announced what it calls “the world’s first” interactive 3D cinema game. It’s called Asteroid Storm and will feature at 20 selected Vue cinemas in the UK this summer for a bit of pre-movie fun.

The game sounds fairly simple – which it would have to be considering it’s played en masse – and will take you on an interactive 3D gaming adventure via the big screen. And best of all is the entire game can be controlled from your seat, making it the first time anyone will be able to play and control a game like this in the UK.

Asteroid Storm takes place on Starship O2, which is trapped in an asteroid belt. You will be enlisted as crew and instructed to help steer the ship to safety by using movement such as putting your hands in the air while giant 3D space rocks fly at you in an attempt to make you fail your mission.

The interactive gaming doesn’t stop there. Before you take your seats in the cinema (or Starship) you will be invited to take part in interactive floor projecting games in the foyer, including Wac-a-roid, a game which encourages players to stamp out asteroids as they appear.

The games will be hitting the cinema as of 10 July and will run ahead of fun-tastic family movies such as Ice Age 3 and G-Force.
