A Pepsi smartphone could soon become reality
No, seriously. We don't know why either
Do not adjust your monitors, or rub your eyes. You’ve read that correctly. Pepsi is working on releasing a smartphone.
According to the latest crazy speculation flying out of Rumour Land, the soft drinks giant will be commissioning an as-of-yet unnamed Chinese smartphone manufacturer to create a Pepsi-branded handset.
The leaked specs don’t actually sound half bad either. A 5.5in 1080p screen, an octa-core MediaTek MT6592 processor and 2GB of RAM make up the meat of the device, while a 13MP camera and 16GB of (probably expandable) storage round things off.
It’s no flagship killer, sure, but for a presumably inexpensive smartphone with a Pepsi logo slapped on the back? Not a bad effort, although that doesn’t make it any less absurd.
Android 5.1 – no doubt skinned with Pepsi branding – will also be loaded up on the device, along with a generous 3000mAh battery to keep it going in between drinking delicious refreshing glasses of Pepsi (TM).
If this all turns out to be true, then we expect a rebuttal from Coca Cola – possibly in the form of a can-shaped tablet which offers instant refreshment via drone delivery.
