Valve moves into hardware – is a Steam Box console coming?

Software developer Valve has confirmed that it’s taking the plunge into hardware development

Valve, the creators of Half-Life and Portal, is making the move into hardware. Our trigger fingers have been twitching after talk of a Valve Steam Box console and leaked photos of a Valve gaming controller – but it amounted to nothing more than rumour – until now.

Valve has officially advertised for a platform hardware employee with experience of shipping high-tech hardware – saying in the description that, “We’re frustrated by the lack of innovation in the computer hardware space though, so we’re jumping in.” It goes on, “Even basic input, the keyboard and mouse, haven’t really changed in any meaningful way over the years.” This adds excitement to the controller patent we saw a while back.

But without any direct mention of a Steam Box console, we’re still holding our breath with twitchy gaming fingers crossed – for now.
