HTC One camera update offers performance boost

HTC's flagship superphone gets updated with a welcome boost to its imaging smarts. Has the Android top dog just got better?

The HTC One has a new update which has reportedly boosted its camera quality by a considerable amount, further strengthening its arsenal in its fight against the Samsung Galaxy S4.

The camera update appears to have addressed a bug which affects the ISO speed and it’s thought that the update has tweaked both shutter speed and ISO settings.

The upshot of all this is a noticeable (and welcome) increase in both sharpness and colour saturation – at least in the photos above, taken by AndroidPit. Coupled with the HTC One’s winning low-light performance, this latest update could cement its position as Stuff’s number one smartphone.

Other fixes in the update include HTC Zoe sound quality optimisations, Beats Audio tweaks, location service updates and other  fixes for stability, so check your handsets now to start downloading.

We’ll be updating our HTC One review unit with the newest firmware, so stay tuned for some more updated comparison shots of our very own.

UPDATE: We’ve taken a few shots both before and after the updated camera firmware. Click below to embiggen and see what you think:
