Sony launches Android Walkman with FLAC
New F800 music player has Ice Cream Sandwich, is compatible with ultra-high quality lossless format
Sony has launched a new Walkman music player. The Sony F800 features Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and, for the first time in a Walkman, support for FLAC files.
FLAC is an ultra-high quality lossless format prized by audiophiles but available on only a handful of portable music players. Elsewhere the F800 features a 3.5in screen, Tegra 2 dual-core processor and support for all manner of apps via Google Play.
There’s Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and a built-in speaker, and 8GB, 16GB and 32GB models will be available. You’ll be able to expect around 20 hours of music playback (or 4.5 hours of video) from a single battery charge.
The F800 will launch in the US in August (we’d expect a European release to happen around the same time). It’ll be accompanied by other, non-Android Walkman models. We’ll post reviews when we get our hands on them.
