Last week we brought you the news that two thirds of PS2 titles might  be compatible with PS3. Well, today Sony has surpassed itself with the launch of its backwards compatibility site, which reveals that more than 70 per cent of PS2 games will play on the shiny new console. The database (see link below) lets you check which of your dusty old PSone and PS2 games will work on the PS3. Although the guide doesn’t offer black and white clarity – a key tells you whether there are ‘noticeable’, ‘minor’, or ‘ no known issues’ with each game – it does reveal that an impressive 1782 PS2 titles will be playable in some form on PS3.   A quick check reveals that the most recent installments of Pro Evo and Metal Gear Solid have been given the green light, although Gran Turismo 4 has been labeled as a potential problem game. Still, you’ll be too busy with Motorstorm to notice. Click here for our live launch-night video footage, plus our stuff.tv hands-on test. And here for your chance to win a PS3 Essentials
