Astronomy Photographer of the Year

The Astronomy Photographer of the Year competition has been running for four years now, and space fans will be blown away by the photography included in its accompanying app. With 90 photographs from winners, runners-up and highly commended entries over the years, the app can be browsed by individual planet, asteroids and comets, galaxies or deep space – each photo featuring comments from its photographer on how it was captured.

If you’ve got hundreds of images on your iPhone, but no idea exactly when they were taken or why, Flayvr is an app that can help. It automatically organises photos and videos from your camera roll into albums by date and location – which you can then rename as you wish. The animated UI Is a particular highlight, while sharing your albums with friends over social networks or email is a piece of cake.

Atari has been doing a good job of remaking some of its old classics for mobile – and Outlaw is the latest one to get a spit and polish for iOS. Inspired by the 1976 arcade game, it keeps the gameplay from the original, but adds cartoon characters and a storyline that sees you travelling the Wild West for rootin’ tootin’ shoot outs with bad guys including corrupt sheriffs and gun-slinging banditos.

Serving up oodles of stills some of the most popular shows on TV right now, the app lets you caption them to make a ‘quip.’ Set your favourite shows and you’ll see a news feed filled with other users’ quips, which you can like or comment on – and you can follow your favourite users for more televisual merriment.

In Storm the Train, you choose a trio of agents to take on a train inexplicably packed with a strange combination of zombies, robots, ninjas and boss battles. Your aim is to rescue hostages and complete a whole host of mission objectives to collect coins. These coins will, of course, allow you upgrade your arsenal of weapons to help you cause even more devastation, as well as buy new outfits and vehicles.
