Sharp’s Feel UX Android skin takes on HTC Sense
Is this the lock screen you've been dreaming of? Japanese smartphones could soon be getting an image-heavy makeover
Sharp’s been showing off the new Feel UX skin for its Android Aquos phones and while we won’t be seeing these handsets over in these parts anytime soon – Sharp’s sticking to Japan for now – the video is still worth a look if your stock Android or iOS homescreen is starting to look a little tired.
We’re particularly taken with the Feel UX lock screen. With big photos, weather animations and a music player all accessible from the lock screen it’s one of the prettiest we’ve seen. You can still stick your apps into folders, home and back buttons disappear on the homescreen and notifications look handy. Plus the whole skinned OS has more than a little Windows Phone Metro influence.
One word of warning: Android skins can end up seriously slowing down the device, making the good-looking additions too annoying to enjoy. So Sharp, and design firm frog, had better hope those next gen Aquos phones run smoothly on the new UI this summer.
