The snap-happy Moto G4 and G4 Plus are official, still a bargain
High-spec cameras for Moto's best value phones
The king of cut-price smartphones is back, and this time it’s packing a fingerprint sensor.
Motorola pulled back the curtain on not one, but two new Moto G models this morning, and both look like absolute corkers.
Want a cheap and cheerful Android phone that won’t let you down? That’ll be the Moto G4. For your cash, you get a 5.5in 1080p screen, Snapdragon 617 CPU and a 3000mAh battery that should get you through the whole day on a single charge.
It’s got a 13MP camera sensor on the back, runs a nearly stock version of Android Marshmallow, and has 16GB of on-board storage for filling with music, photos and apps.
At £169, it looks like Moto is getting ready to set the bar for mid-range phones yet again.
Maybe mid-range isn’t enough for you though. That’s where the G4 Plus comes in.
It’s got the same basic spec as the vanilla G4, only it swaps out the 13MP camera for a 16MP snapper, complete with f/2.0 aperture, laser and phase-deec autofocus, and larger pixels for better low-light shots.
Motorola reckons it scores better in the independent DxOMark photo test than an iPhone 6s Plus, which is pretty damn impressive for a £199 phone.
You also get a fingerprint sensor on the front of the phone, which should play nicely with Android Pay (once it arrives in the UK, that is), 3GB of RAM, and storage gets doubled to 32GB.
Both phones are set to launch in June, with Tesco Mobile, Argos and Amazon first in line. You’ll be able to make one your own with Motorola’s Moto Maker customisation service too.
We’re at the launch right now, so stick around for some first impressions a little later today.
