Sony Ericsson Android 3.0 PSP gaming phone
After years of speculation, it looks like there could really be a PSP phone on the cards
There have been rumblings of a PSP phone for years now, but now it seems that there might actually be some reality behind the rumours. A ‘trusted source’ of Engadget reckons that Sony Ericsson is knee deep in the development of a new gaming platform and device.
A testament to how long the PSP phone has been talked about – these pictures are a mockup we published in the January 2008 issue of Stuff Magazine.
On the hardware side, it’s said to be a landscape slider like the Motorola Milestone, but Instead of a QWERTY keyboard, there are game controls. These include a D-pad, a “long touch pad” for analogue control, and the standard four-buttons-plus-shoulder-buttons of the PSP.
There’s also a large display around 4in in size, a 5MP camera and most probably a 1GHz processor.
Word is that it will run Android 3.0 (aka Gingerbread), and that a new section on the Android Marketplace will we set up for games, which should see 3D gaming come to Android… and possibly to other compatible phones as well.
Portable gaming fans have been clamouring for a PSP phone for ages, but when it finally hits the shelves will you be first line?
