Sony Xperia Z3+ launches worldwide

After a limited release in the Far East as the Z4, Sony’s latest flagship smartphone is going global

Sony has announced that the Xperia Z3+, its 2015 flagship smartphone, is to be available globally from June.

The Android-powered phone has been available in Japan for a while already, albeit under the name of the Xperia Z4, and now Sony has finally decided to unleash it upon the rest of the world.

As its name suggests, the Z3+ is very much a development of 2014’s Xperia Z3 handset rather than a radically overhauled design. The look of the phone is much the same as other Xperia phones of recent years, with the same dust- and waterproof build, a slim 6.9mm depth and weight of just 144g.

There’s a new octa-core Snapdragon 810 processor on board, alongside 3GB of RAM, 32GB of expandable storage (microSD cards up to 128GB are supported) and a 2900mAh battery. The screen is a 5.2in full HD LCD with 428ppi – so those holding out for Sony to go with a 2K display will be waiting a little longer.

The camera has always been a strong point on Sony’s recent smartphones, so we’re looking forward to putting the 20.7MP Exmor RS sensor through its paces; it’s paired with a 25mm lens, SteadyShot image stabilisation and a maximum ISO sensitivity of 12800, and can capture 4K video. The front camera has a 5MP Exmor R sensor, 25mm wide angle lens and can record 1080p video.

The Sony Xperia Z3+ will be available in June in four different colour finishes: black, white, copper (exclusive to Vodafore) and green (exclusive to Carphone Warehouse). Pricing is yet to be announced. Look out for our full review here, very soon.
