There’s a new Google Nest wired doorbell plus a revamped Home app incoming
Numerous app enhancements get the app ready for Matter support, including new automation features
Ahead of Google’s big Pixel 7, 7 Pro and Pixel Watch launch event this week, Google has dropped a couple of Nest updates to its smart home devices.
First up is a new version of the Google Nest doorbell, here presented in a wired version which is joined by a new Wi-Fi 6E-toting Google Nest Wi-Fi Pro and updates to the Google Home app. More on the app bits in a mo, but these announcements certainly suggest we won’t be seeing updates to Google’s other smart home devices this year.
The new $179 wired Nest Doorbell follows up the Nest Hello and is meant for homes with existing doorbell wiring. It’s designed for constant video capture if you have a Nest Aware Plus subscription, but note that if the power is cut, the recording will cut out, too.
The design of the wired version is a little slimmer than its battery-powered counterpart but is just as tall.
The Google Home app has been revised with a new camera view, new automation features to make the most of sensors and there’s also support for devices running with the new smart home standard Matter which is set to be a big deal in the smart devices world. The new app will be a public beta first, rolling out in a few weeks.
