Toshiba debuts first upscaling TV

HD-ready TVs don’t exactly have a banquet of over-the-air hi-def content to gorge on, so Toshiba has come up with a solution: a new series of LCDs with a built-in upscaling processor.

Though we’ve yet to see the magic in action, Tosh is claiming that the cell processors and Resolution+ tech in its new ZF series will sharpen the detail and edges of anything you throw at them – broadcast programmes, DVD – to ‘near hi-def quality’.

The 40in and 46in LCDs are fine tellies in their own right too, both offering 1080p resolution, 100hz processing for handling fast motion and four HDMI ports.

Not that the ZF series is the only project Tosh has been beavering away on – its Regza line has also been given a refresh, with an entry-level group of 1080p XV panels (available in 46in and 52in flavours) and an RV series (think the ZFs minus the nifty Resolution+ tech) both making their bow.

Finally, a new DV series, which feature a built-in DVD player and will be arriving in 19in and 22in guises, will be arriving in October. Choices, choices.
