Pure aims for your TV with Pure Avalon 300R Connect Freeview+ box

DAB radio manufacturer Pure has its sights set on your TV, with the launch of its first set-top box, the Pure Avalon 300R Connect.
The Freeview+ box comes in 500GB and 1TB flavours, with Wi-Fi built in (take that, YouView). That means up to 250 hours of HD recording on the 1TB box, or 125 hours on the 500GB model. The receiver also packs 4 HDMI inputs, meaning that the Avalon 300R Connect can act as a hub for your HD AV devices.
That built-in Wi-Fi means you’ll be able to use the Avalon to connect to Pure’s internet radio and music services – hence why it’s called the Avalon 300R Connect. Access to Pure’s music subscription service, and wireless streaming from Android and iOS devices, will be added to the box “in the coming months.”
You also get access to HTML5 versions of the BBC iPlayer and YouTube, with more video services like 4oD coming to the platform in due course.
The Pure Avalon 300R Connect also features a rather flashy 3D EPG courtesy of PowerVR graphics tech. While the PowerPoint-style transitions will appeal or horrify depending on your personal taste, it’s not all visual trickery – a handy picture-in-picture preview lets you check out what’s playing on the other channels, without interrupting the programme you’re watching.
The 500GB model will be available for £300, with the 1TB version coming in at £350.
