Asus’ Bamboo U6 laptop has been delayed so long we thought the UK’s shipment must have been stolen by a team of hungry pandas. We first reported on it back in April 2007, but now a production model has finally reached Stuff Towers.

This is a first generation model so, while it’s kind to Mother Nature, it doesn’t quite offer the full bamboo experience we saw in the early concept designs. For starters, the wood finish is a skin rather than a full chassis makeover, though this biodegradable material is still more environmentally friendly than the original U6’s leather finish.

There are, though, power-saving components under the bonnet, and connectivity is decent with three USBs, HDMI, a mini DVI and ethernet. There’s no full spec list yet, though the Bamboo U6 will be out in late September/early October so look out for a full test soon.
