Rubbing yet more salt into the wound that us Brits can’t get our hands on it, Microsoft has confirmed the Zune HD is set to get its own app store, complete with 3D games.
Pushing its way in to the handheld gaming circle currently frequented by the likes of Apple, Sony and Nintendo, the Zune HD’s 3D games will include Project Gotham Racing: Ferrari Edition, Vans Sk8: Pool Service and Audiosurf Tilt.
Alongside gaming there will also be apps for things such as Twitter and Facebook up for grabs from the Zune Marketplace, and all content will be downloadable over a Wi-fi connection, or when hooked up to your PC.
The idea for now is to keep all the apps and games free, and have them developed in house or in close collaboration with third parties, rather than releasing an SDK for people to develop apps willy nilly.
Brian Seitz, Zune’s marketing manager, has said however that the Zune’s priority will be on gaming, while Windows Marketplace will be the bigger platform for handheld app development.
Of course we’ve still not been told if we can ever expect to see the Zune HD hit shops this side of the pond, so until we do – forget about 3D gaming and check out our Top 10 MP3 players that you can pick up in the UK.
