Introduction

The Krups Intuition Experience+ is about as close as you can get to having a barista on call, minus the awkward small talk and the wait. This bean-to-cup coffee machine is the quietest that Krups has ever produced (and the quietest I’ve ever used), making it a godsend for anyone who craves their morning brew in peace.

With a sleek colour touchscreen that’s as intuitive as your smartphone, it effortlessly guides you through over 20 hot and cold drinks, from a classic espresso to a trendy Nitro Coffee – all without a single eye roll from a barista. Best of all? It still works out cheaper than grabbing something from Starbucks every day. That said, it’s a sizeable step up in price compared to bean-to-cup machines from other brands. How does it stack up when you start to use it?

How we test kitchen and cleaning tech

Every vacuum cleaner, coffee machine and kitchen/cleaning gadget reviewed on Stuff is put through a battery of tests before we give our final verdict and star rating. We use our own years of experience to judge general performance, battery life, ease of use and value for money. Manufacturers have no visibility on reviews before they appear online, and we never accept payment to feature products.

Design & build: shinin’ bright

When it comes to styling, Krups hasn’t held back. The Intuition Experience+ is a polished metal marvel, designed to blend seamlessly into any kitchen. The glossy stainless steel finish gives it a premium look that suggests it belongs in a high-end coffee shop rather than on your countertop.

It’s not just about looks, though – this machine is built to perform. The colour touchscreen is front and centre, and it’s plenty responsive and easy to use. With its slick interface, you can navigate the myriad of options without breaking a sweat.

The machine is relatively compact for what it packs in, making it a solid choice even if your kitchen space is on the smaller side. The milk carafe is conveniently detachable, meaning you can pop it in the fridge between uses, keeping your milk fresh and ready for action. It’s these thoughtful touches that make this machine feel like a real upgrade to your morning routine.

Features: touchy-feely and all about you

This bean-to-cup machine is all about personalisation. Whether you’re a coffee connoisseur who knows exactly how you like your brew, or someone who just wants a quick caffeine fix, the Intuition Experience+ has you covered. It remembers up to eight individual profiles, so everyone in your household can have their perfect cup ready at the touch of a button.

The personalisation options are impressive. You can customise everything from the temperature of your drink to the intensity of your coffee, and even the amount of milk. There’s a new 4th intensity level for those who like their coffee strong enough to wake the neighbours – a feature that’s sure to please the strong-brew aficionados like myself. However, if you’re hoping to switch between regular and decaf beans, you’re out of luck, as there’s only one bean hopper.

The Intuition Experience+ isn’t just about espresso, though. With over 20 drink options, you can explore everything from a classic cappuccino to the more exotic Nitro Coffee. The latter is particularly interesting – while it doesn’t use actual nitrogen like you’d get in a café, the machine cheats a bit by using the milk wand to aerate cold coffee. The result? A creamy, cold coffee that’s surprisingly satisfying. And if you’re feeling old-school, there’s even a tea option. It just spurts out hot water, but it’s far quicker than a kettle.

Performance: every sip savoured

When it comes to performance, the Krups Intuition Experience+ doesn’t disappoint. It fires up in just a couple of minutes and is ready to go with a tap of the screen. Once it’s on, you can quickly select your favourite drink from the extensive menu, and the machine will remember your preferences, thanks to its profile feature. This makes getting your ideal cup of coffee in the morning a breeze, especially if you’re not fully awake yet.

The machine is incredibly quiet – the quietest I’ve ever used, in fact – which means you can make your morning coffee without disturbing the entire household. It’s a small thing, but when you’re creeping around early in the morning, it makes all the difference. That said, while the machine is quick to start up, it does take its time when actually making drinks. But given how quiet it is, I’m more than happy to wait a few extra seconds for my perfectly brewed cup.

Every shot of espresso comes out with a rich, thick crema – a sure sign of quality. The body of the espresso is lighter in colour compared to some other machines, which translates to a more flavourful and less bitter taste. The mouthfeel is smooth, coating your tongue without being too heavy or too thin. It’s the kind of espresso that makes you savour every sip.

Krups Intuition Experience+ verdict

Krups Intuition Experience+ beans

The Krups Intuition Experience+ is a standout bean-to-cup coffee machine, offering a near-barista experience in the comfort of your own home. It’s a machine that combines form with function, and an excellent choice for coffee lovers who want the ability to tailor their drinks to perfection.

It’s far from cheap, though, so it’ll take longer to pay for itself versus regular coffee shop runs, and it’s not the best option for those who regularly switch between beans. But with its quiet operation, sleek design, and impressive personalisation features, it’s otherwise perfect for anyone who values a customised coffee experience without the hassle.
